Physiotherapy assessment and treatment at The Physio Rooms

The short answer

What this treatment is

Every appointment starts with a full musculoskeletal assessment: history, movement analysis, and a working diagnosis you understand. Treatment combines manual therapy with progressive exercise rehabilitation and clear education — the combination NICE guidance recommends for low back pain, neck pain, shoulder problems, and most common MSK conditions. We take a holistic view, factoring in your work, sport, and daily lifestyle so the plan fits your real demands. You leave each session with a written summary of what we did, why, and what to do between visits, plus a tailored home programme to keep recovery moving.

Areas treated

What's included

  • HCPC-registered, CSP-chartered physiotherapists — the regulated UK clinical standard
  • Combined manual therapy, exercise rehab, and patient education (NICE-aligned for low back pain, osteoarthritis, and tendinopathy)
  • Two own clinics — Liverpool Street in the City of London and Wickham Bishops in Essex
  • Holistic assessment that accounts for your work, sport, and lifestyle demands
  • Self-referral via Cliniko online booking — no GP referral needed
  • Written treatment plan and home exercise programme after every session

Boundaries of practice

What's not treated

Good practice means saying no when indicated:

  • Suspected cauda equina syndrome (back pain with loss of bladder or bowel control, or saddle numbness) — this is a medical emergency; go to A&E
  • Suspected or unhealed fracture, dislocation, or surgical wound in the area being treated
  • Suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in a limb — requires urgent GP or hospital review before manual therapy
  • Active malignancy in the area being treated without oncologist clearance
  • Severe, uncontrolled cardiovascular instability

Common
questions

Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. UK physiotherapists are first-contact practitioners, so you can self-refer and book directly through our Cliniko online booking page. If you are using private health insurance, your provider may require a GP referral first, so check your policy. Self-funded patients never need a referral to see us.

How many sessions will I need?

Most acute injuries settle within three to six sessions over four to eight weeks. Chronic conditions such as long-standing low back pain, recurring tendinopathy, or post-surgical rehab typically need six to twelve. We discuss a realistic course at your first appointment and reassess every visit. We will not sell you sessions you do not need.

What should I wear and bring to my appointment?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that lets us assess and move the affected area — shorts for lower-limb problems, a vest top for shoulder or neck issues. We have private treatment rooms at both clinics. Bring any relevant scan or test results, insurer details if applicable, and a list of any medications you currently take.

Where are your physiotherapy clinics?

We have two clinics. Our London clinic is at 280 Bishopsgate, EC2M 4RB, inside UNTIL Liverpool Street in the City. Our Essex clinic is at 7 Wooldridge Place, Wickham Bishops, CM8 3LW. The same clinical standards apply at both sites, and you can book either location through our Cliniko page.

What does a physiotherapist actually treat?

We treat musculoskeletal problems: back pain and sciatica, neck pain, sports injuries, tendon and muscle injuries, post-operative rehabilitation, and arthritis. Physiotherapy is recommended by NICE as a first-line option for most of these. Treatment blends manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and education so you understand and manage your condition.
